If there's a feast ongoing, then they might not come out, but I don't know if that's true. This way you can get to the town without them coming out to chase you, and then you can ask to talk to them. A good tactic is to go up to a town at night, when you know a lord's there. Keep in mind that the lords will attack you on sight provided they have a large enough numerical advantage (and they probably will at this stage). It'll cost you, I think getting out of a -5 cost me 5k or something like that. What you need to do is talk to a lord, and ask to make peace. Even if you get the town relations out of the negatives, they won't let you buy land if you're an enemy of the faction. If that's it, then, okay, that's slightly trickier. you've sworn an oath to the king of whatshisface? That should have reset all your faction relations to be the same as the kingdom relations. You mean you're enemies with the factions themselves? Aren't you a vassal now, i.e. Putting the refuge near your target might be helpful for that, plus you can roam around with fewer troops for mobility, then when you see the enemy coming to siege the fort you can hightail it back to your refuge, pick up your elites and go wait in the castle to stave off the siege. Remember that you also need to hold the fort for 20 days (IIRC) so you'll want to hang around there for a bit. You can take as long as you need to get to a comfortable point with this, and then give it a shot. The main questline has no expiry timer, so don't worry about taking your time doing this. Money flow might be a problem if you're in the negatives with the British towns, so you might also want to spend some time buddying up to them so you can build your enterprises. Their added help should be very valuable, especially if they've been doing well in fights (something you can help them with for added relations) and so have a good number of high level troops. Then, when you are ready to siege the place, ask them to follow you. You can also spend time doing quests for a particular lord or two, getting your relation up with them. If you're having trouble gathering troops from villages you can try for mercenaries from town mead halls, they're generally better anyway, or rescued prisoners. Well, you can build a refuge and use it to store high cost troops while you go around gathering more.
